1st Pictures

The twins were born at 33 weeks. After the babies were born, they were taken to the nursery. Here are some of the pictures that the nurses took in the nursery. The monitors are to check their heart rates, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate. If you look closely you can see that in one of the pictures they are holding hands. Awww...

The Labor Story

This one is long.....

Wednesday, July 16th was just like any other day. I got up, made breakfast and started work from my laptop. I had lunch with my friend Amy from work. Derrick and I worked on cleaning out the former office, soon to be babies room. We headed to the Y so Derrick could work out and I could attend my Mommy's-to-be swim class. Afterwards we grabbed some Subway sandwiches and headed to childbirth class. We were very excited for this class because a pediatrician would be coming in to talk to us. We were so surprised when the pediatrician turned out to be the doctor we had picked out for the twins. We absolutely loved listening to his ideas, suggestions, and comments. We left feeling very happy with our choice in a pediatrician. When we got home I headed for bed. I was very tired and the babies had been moving around a lot that day. Derrick stayed up to play video games. At 12:40 a.m. I woke up to go to the bathroom. Something felt weird so I headed back to my night stand to get my glasses. As I was heading back to the bathroom my water broke. I started shaking and yelled for Derrick who was in the living room. When he asked what was wrong I told him that I thought my water broke! He replied back "what do you mean, you THINK?". My doctor was in Europe for 3 weeks so we called the doctor's office to be connected with the on call doctor. The doctor told us to head on in to the hospital and he'd meet us there. Derrick started packing and asked what he should pack for me. I told him I wasn't sure because I hadn't read that far in my book yet!! We threw a bunch of stuff into the bag and got in the car. I called Mom and let her know what was going on and that I would call her back when we found out what was happening. Derrick called and left a message with his parents. Once we got the hospital at 1:00 a.m. they set me up in the labor and delivery room. They hooked me up to the monitors. I had 3 sensors--one for my contractions and one for each of the twins' heartbeats. The nurse checked me and said I was about a 5 or a 6. They asked if I was sure that I wasn't feeling contractions because they could see them on the monitor. I told them I wanted an epidural for the pain. The doctor finally showed up and said that I was about a 6 or a 7. I was starting to feel contractions. Derrick was wonderful in helping me breathe through them. While I was working through all the contractions, the nurses were getting everything ready. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion and everyone was taking their time. The guy came to give me the epidural and needed me to lean forward so he could have a flat surface on my back to work with. At this point the contractions were getting really close together and were very intense. He said we would just have to work through the contractions. He was having a hard time getting the needle in so he had the nurses help me lean over. The contractions were hurting so bad, but all his needle pokes were hurting too! I started telling the nurses that I felt like a needed to push. They told me just to keep breathing. Finally I got kind of snappy and told them that I had to push NOW, the baby was coming. They went and got the doctor. He took and look and said that the babies were definitely coming and that we would have to stop the epidural. I pushed a few times and then Addison was born at 3:30 am. They broke Aiden's water and a pushed a few more times and then Aiden was born at 3:34 a.m. The doctor said that was the closest he's ever seen twins that weren't delivered by C-section. It was so amazing to see them--I couldn't believe how quickly they came and that I delivered them without any pain medicine at all!! Birth is definitely a miracle.
